Why Motherhood

I have been asked this question a few times. Why motherhood? My initial thought is "Why not motherhood?" It is a gift. It is a blessing. It is messy hair and daggy tracksuit pants on her a good day. Why not celebrate this?

The short answer is that I don't know. Over the last two years, I have felt a pull to capture and celebrate motherhood. I wasn't sure where it was going but I felt the need to focus on the beauty, the connections, and the emotions of motherhood. This is not say that I don't respect the hard work that fathers do, it is just that there are many family photographers and I felt the need to step outside of the box.

I have finally made the decision to focus on this and call myself a motherhood photographer, which for now sounds odd and scary. When I started my beauty of motherhood project, I set a goal of capturing 25 Mothers. I reached this goal and celebrated on Mother's day last year. Today, I am setting a lofty goal of capturing 1000 Mothers. I don't have an end date for this but one day I hope to post that I have reached my goal. And so, the journey starts.
