For the Love of the Photograph
The book arrived early in the morning, my whole day was busy, and the next. I carved out Friday morning to sit in the calm, and read Chloe's words in her new book, "For the love of the photograph."
I've never met Chloe, and our friendship is purely over the internet. We are kindred spirits, and I value her beautiful creative heart. So, I was filled with anticipation to sit with this book and see the beauty that she made with her whole heart.
I knew it would be beautiful, but it was more than I expected. It's visually stunning and filled with many of her images created in our 365 projects. It'd be so easy to flip through the pages and get lost in her prettiness. However, it is more than just a pretty book.
The book is all about storytelling. Chloe uses words and images to create a gentle voice to remind us why we picked up the camera in the first place. What sparked our joy and why we run to grab the camera when we see pretty light and dancing shadows. It's a calm voice, filled with kindness, and a genuine passion for the craft. She's not asking you to look at her skills and copy them in any way. Rather, she outlines the bag of tricks that help her tell stories. She explains some of the technical aspects of photography, the importance of light, and colour in her art. She suggests some excellent tips about social media and how to stay sane in the chaos.
But what she is really asking you to do is to look inward. She does this with such quietness, and love that you finish the book feeling like she gave you a gentle hug. There's a calm in the chaos feeling from this book that I adore and needed to read. Her words and images reminded me to stay on my path and enjoy this crazy ride. She encouraged me to embrace the story and celebrate the ordinary.
I adored this book more than I expected, and I felt inspired to write this post. I don't receive any kickback or commission; it's a genuine post. And, I encourage you to get a copy of the book and sit in the calm with Chloe. Your creative heart will thank you for it.
You can find the book over on the For the Love of the Photograph website.
