Sydney Lifestyle Photographer- Celebrating milestones and the moments that matter
We celebrated a birthday during August, and it was a milestone in my motherhood journey as well. My youngest is now in the double digits, and I have survived/enjoyed 19 years with at least one child in single digits. Seriously, I feel like I deserve a medal or a badge of honour; how many nappies have I changed, or sloppy kisses have I received, or toddlers tantrums have I breathed through, and the many firsts and lasts that have I celebrated over those nineteen years. Instead of the medal, I quietly reflected on this phase that is now over. I didn't feel sad or nostalgic for those days that will be no longer but rather euphoric. I gave 110% to being a Mum to babies and toddlers. I was far from perfect, and most days I felt like I was dropping the ball. But when I did drop the ball, I kicked it along with my feet or toes to keep going. Some days were happy and filled with joy; others left me crying in the corner. But that is motherhood; it is a delicate balance between tears and laughter.
As I stood at the top of this mountain, I paused a moment to enjoy the view. I quietly happy danced at an achievement that no-one else would notice and looked forward to the next mountain of tweens and teens. But before I moved on, I celebrated my daughter's birthday with as much sparkle, slime, and colour as I could. She enjoyed a magical movie night and onsie party with her very close friends. We made unicorn fudge, unicorn bark, funfetti cookie dough balls, a rainbow cake and decorated our home with fairy lights and sparkles.
