WHEN THE TIDE GOES OUT

“There is ebb and flow. Leaving and coming. Flight and fall. Sing and silent. Reaching and reached"

– Ally Condie

I'm quietly celebrating I have my editing mojo back.

I lost it for a while there; I couldn't stand to sit at the desk to edit.

I felt constrained and needed fresh air.

I needed to move, and I've shared about it before.

So, I just did the bare minimum.

I would edit the smallest amount possible, and sometimes I would use my mobile.

I trusted that it would return.

That trust comes from being creative for over ten years; I understand these things have cycles.

Our creative process has an ebb and flow; it's not always on.

Like us, it gets tired, bored, or overstimulated. It needs time out.

Sometimes, whether we like it or not, the tide goes out.

We have no control over when it comes back in, and it's out of our hands.

We have to wait patiently and trust that it will come back.

Something will trigger the return, and there is a trust in the process.

It's hard, but we can lean into these ebbs with hindsight and lots of learning.

Let them happen, and use the space to play or rest.

Your body will tell you what it needs.

I am joyful that my editing mojo has returned, as I thoroughly enjoy the editing process.

Many of you may not, but it's part of my creative process, and I was missing a good chunk of what I love to do.

I've edited for almost four hours, and I'm bringing more of me into my images again.

Sigh, this is why I am here.
